{"id":12910,"date":"2025-10-09T12:13:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T17:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shockwavemedical.com\/education\/cadaveric-study-compares-moa-of-advanced-lesion-preparation-strategies\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T08:18:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T13:18:37","slug":"cadaveric-study-compares-moa-of-advanced-lesion-preparation-strategies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shockwavemedical.com\/de\/education\/cadaveric-study-compares-moa-of-advanced-lesion-preparation-strategies\/","title":{"rendered":"Cadaveric Study Compares Mechanisms of Action of Advanced Lesion Preparation Strategies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section id=\"block_8ee4f1af920b94b7f550c9c8e93cdda6\" class=\"block block--wysiwyg wysiwyg_styles u-bgColorNone container\">\n\t<div class=\"u-wysiwyg u-animation\">\n\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacc.org\/doi\/10.1016\/j.jcin.2025.06.035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A recently published cadaveric study<\/a> compares the frequency and patterns of calcium fracture and medial injury based on the mechanism of action (MOA) of advanced calcified lesion preparation strategies.<\/p>\n<p>17 cadaveric calcified lesions were randomized to one of three treatment arms of Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL; Shockwave C2+), cutting balloons (CB; Wolverine\u2122 Boston Scientific) and ultra-high pressure balloons (UHB; OPN NC SIS Medical). Frequency of calcium fracture and presence of medial injury \u2013 which potentially negatively affects long-term clinical outcomes due to increased neointimal thickness, higher inflammatory cell count and in-stent restenosis<sup>1,2<\/sup> \u2013 were identified using gold-standard techniques of micro-CT and histology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shockwave C2+ produced the most calcium fracture with the least amount of medial injury by lesion and across concentric and eccentric calcium arcs.<\/strong> Within histological sections with concentric calcium, fractures produced by Wolverine\u2122 and OPN NC were mostly associated with medial injury.
