He is Chief Medical Officer, overseeing the global medical affairs and clinical affairs organizations. Prior to Shockwave, he was Chief Medical Officer and Divisional Vice President of Global Medical Affairs for Abbott\u2019s Vascular Division from 2019 to 2023. Before this, he was a practicing interventional cardiologist at the Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, as well as a founding member and Chief Medical Officer of the Cambridge-based biotech startup, PlaqueTec Ltd.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr. West graduated in medicine from Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge and St. Thomas\u2019 Hospital Medical School, London, and trained in interventional cardiology at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Green Lane Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> He earned his doctoral thesis studying at the University of Oxford and Duke University, North Carolina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">He sits on the Innovation Council of the UCLA Biodesign Program and chaired the AHA\u2019s Bay Area Research Roundtable in 2023.
